Vehicle and Boat trip

Hi there! Welcome to Labuan Bajo. As your local host and senior agency owner, let me take you on a deeper dive into this epic marine adventure.

Welcome to the ultimate Komodo Fishing Trip!

This is a private charter designed for travelers who want to skip the standard tourist trails. You will experience the raw power of the Indonesian sea. The waters surrounding the Taman Nasional Komodo are world-famous among sport fishermen. The collision of the Indian and Pacific Oceans creates massive underwater currents. These currents bring up nutrients that attract huge schools of baitfish, which in turn attract monster apex predators.
On this trip, we combine high-adrenaline sport fishing with classic island relaxation. You get the best of both worlds: rod-bending action in the deep channels and pristine snorkeling bays during the breaks.

The Game Plan: Your Deep-Sea Itinerary
    • 06:30 AM – Early Morning Hotel Pickup: Our driver will meet you right at your hotel lobby. We start early because the big predatory fish feed aggressively during the first light of dawn. We take you straight to the Labuan Bajo marina to meet your captain and guide.
    • 07:00 AM – Safety Briefing & Departure: Step on board your private speedboat. Your guide will show you the layout of the deck, set up the rod holders, and check the digital fish-finder. We immediately cruise out toward the southern islands while you enjoy a hot morning coffee.
    • 08:00 AM – Popping & Jigging Near Kelor Island: We arrive at our first deep-water drop-off outside Kelor. The underwater topography here features sudden cliffs where the ocean floor jumps from 50 meters up to 10 meters. We will engine-drift along these structures. This is prime time for heavy casting and popping. You will be casting surface poppers to entice aggressive Giant Trevally (GT). Hold onto your rod with both hands because these fish strike like freight trains.
    • 11:00 AM – Relaxed Bottom Fishing at Manjarite: After a hard morning workout, we head into the calm, protected bay of Manjarite Island. The water here is crystal clear and completely flat. We will drop anchor near the wooden pier. While the boat crew sets up light rods for bottom fishing—targeting sweetlips, groupers, and red snappers—you can jump right into the water. It is a spectacular natural aquarium filled with colorful corals, making it the perfect spot to snorkel and cool down.
    • 01:00 PM – Fresh Local Lunch on Deck: We serve a fresh, authentic Indonesian lunch box right on the shaded deck of the boat. Enjoy your meal while looking out over the empty white sand beaches. We take a slow, easy cruise toward the deep channels separating the main islands.
    • 02:30 PM – High-Speed Trolling Near Rinca’s Deep Channels: We reach the deep, fast-moving pelagic currents just outside the borders of Rinca Island. The captain will drop the outriggers and set up our heavy-duty trolling lines. We will be skirting the edges of the current rips at around 6 to 8 knots. We are targeting fast-swimming pelagics here, specifically Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, and Barracuda. When the reel clicker starts screaming, it is your turn to jump into the fighting chair.
    • 05:00 PM – Sunset Anchoring at Kalong Island: We wind down the reels, pack up the heavy gear, and cruise toward the dense mangrove forests of Kalong Island. The captain will anchor the boat in calm water just as the sky begins to change color. We serve hot local snacks, tea, and fried bananas on the open bow.
    • 05:45 PM – The Flying Fox Spectacle: Right at dusk, millions of giant fruit bats emerge simultaneously from the mangrove canopy. They fly directly over our boat, silhouetted against the vibrant orange and purple sunset sky as they migrate toward the mainland to forage. It is a breathtaking natural display that lasts for nearly half an hour.
    • 06:30 PM – Night Cruise Back to Town: We fire up the engines for a smooth, relaxed 30-minute cruise back to the harbor. You can sit on the top deck and look at the clear night stars over the ocean.
    • 07:15 PM – Hotel Drop-off: Our private vehicle will be waiting at the pier to transport you safely back to your hotel resort.

Direct Tips and Expectations from a Local Senior Agent

  • Managing Expectations (The Reality of Sport Fishing): We provide the best captains, top-tier sonar equipment, and secret local coordinates. However, nature has its own rules. Factors like sudden weather shifts, changing water temperatures, and bait movements mean that every strike must be earned. The open sea is not a stocked fish pond. Some days the ocean is incredibly generous, and other days it tests your patience. That is the true spirit of sport fishing! If the big predators are playing smart, our guides will quickly shift tactics to bottom fishing or light casting to ensure your rods still get some solid action.
  • Understanding the Tides: In Labuan Bajo, the fish move with the water. The best bites depend heavily on the tide cycles. Trust your guide if they suggest changing the sequence of the islands; they are aligning your casts with the peak water movement.
  • Bring Extra Lures: The coral reefs and predatory teeth can be brutal on equipment. We provide an excellent supply of standard jigs and poppers. However, if you have a favorite lucky lure, bring it along—just make sure it has heavy-duty split rings and single hooks.
  • Sun and Hydration Strategy: The reflection of the sun off the open water can double your UV exposure. Do not wear standard cotton shirts; instead, bring long-sleeve UV-protection fishing shirts, polarized sunglasses to see through the glare, a face gaiter, and a wide-brim hat. Drink water constantly from our cooler, even if you do not feel thirsty.
