Villaggio Bena<\/strong> <\/a>(often called Villaggio tradizionale di Bena<\/em>) is one of the most fascinating cultural destinations on Isola di Flores<\/a><\/strong>, Indonesia. Located in the Reggenza di Ngada<\/strong>, just south of the town of Bajawa, this village offers visitors a rare glimpse into the traditional life, beliefs, and architecture<\/em> of the Ngada people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Timeless Village Nestled Beneath Mount Inerie<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Bena is perched at the foothills of Mount Inerie<\/strong>, a striking volcano that serves not only as a natural backdrop but also as a sacred spiritual symbol<\/strong> for the villagers. According to local belief, the mountain is the home of the guardian deity that protects the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The settlement is believed to be more than a thousand years old<\/em>, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited traditional villages on Flores. Walking through Bena feels like stepping back into an earlier era, where customs and spiritual traditions have endured through centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village is built around a central courtyard and consists of roughly 40\u201345 traditional houses<\/strong>, known locally as Sa\u2019o<\/em>. These houses are constructed using natural materials<\/strong> \u2014 wooden frames, stone foundations, and thatched roofs \u2014 creating a distinctive look that\u2019s both architectural and cultural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bena\u2019s layout reflects social order and lineage. Houses are usually arranged in parallel rows or circles around the central space, and each home belongs to a specific clan or family group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
